Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is one of the most performed — and most successful — surgical procedures in medicine. At Avenue Ophthalmology, it is also one of the most carefully personalized.

A cataract forms when the eye's natural lens becomes clouded with age, gradually dimming vision, dulling colors, and making light appear hazy or glaring. Left untreated, cataracts are the leading cause of reversible blindness worldwide — but with modern surgical techniques, the procedure to remove them is safe, precise, and typically completed in under twenty minutes.

At Avenue Ophthalmology, cataract surgery begins long before the operating room. Each patient receives a thorough pre-surgical evaluation to assess the degree of cataract progression, measure the eye with precision, and discuss the full range of lens implant options available. This consultation is the foundation of a result that not only restores vision — but optimizes it.

Modern cataract surgery replaces the clouded natural lens with an intraocular lens implant (IOL). Patients today have a broad choice of premium lenses, including toric lenses that correct astigmatism, multifocal lenses that reduce dependence on glasses at multiple distances, and light-adjustable lenses that can be fine-tuned after implantation.
